about

"Black & Brown" is in response to a continuance of violence and oppression in our society and world. This song is an encouragement to all the black and brown lives that have been oppressed. Remember that God has not forgotten you. Hold fast to him.

lyrics

Hook

You love your black and brown people,

You love your black and brown people,

You love your black and brown people,

You love your black and brown people too,

Lord,

Your word never returns void,

Even when a white man preached it,

From a heart that’s deceiving,

Making slaves believe they ain’t people,

But cattle meant to push white mans achievements,

It’s like we asked for a drink of our oppression when we didn’t,

Now we’re drowning in a pool that we got thrown in,

And when we stand up against the issues,

All lives matter is the mantra that throws us right back in again,

The heart of the black human is a tender one,

No longer can it be pacified with 40 acres and a mule,

We’re bursting out the seams, a real American dream,

That’s greater than the human mind can think,

It’s never been about any of the cataclysmic achievements,

But that somehow through them you would see us as people,

Created by the same exact God as you,

With struggles like you,

Loving children like you,

9-5 like you,

Waking up like you,

Go to church like you,

Enjoying music like you,

Cooking food like you,

Hanging with friends like you do,

But we’re few pigments too dark,

A few pennies too short

See, it’s like sin’s non-existent,

When your body’s wearing a badge

Or you got loads of cash,

Or fresh green grass with no weeds in it,

A house with a fence that is picket,

But when we hold pickets we trippin,

Or thugs, or animals, when in reality we’re people hurting

Broken by a sinful system that sinned against us, and in response we then sin against each other, sin begets sin,

We know you’re just as broken as we are,

Bills stack up, arguments and abuse occur,

and you may cover it up by taking Megan to her soccer practice,

When our community’s more vocal with our fractures

Black fam, I know it’s easy to doubt,

Ain’t no crystal stairs,

Many dreams deferred,

Satan lies to you,

Make it like you’re unheard by the father,

Or as if somethings better than him,

In his grace the Lord meets us all where we are,

Whether it’s $7 mil or $7 an hour,

But when the church is silent on the issues,

It’s understandable if you start wondering if God is real,

But that's the thing, he is!

His arms are never shortened to save,

His ears never dull to hear,

You’re made in his image,

Regardless what the world tries to mess up,

It can never destroy what he has purposed,

We have great high priest that gave it all up,

That met with the Samaritan,

And tax collectors,

Invalids, paralytics, the hungry and the sick,

Jews and the Gentiles, and all the oppressed,

His love for all, you included, was displayed on the cross,

He died for black lives, his red blood shed for your soul,

Then he rose, defeated our sin

Your life matters to him, your life matters to him!

So, as we fight each day to make a change,

As we fight to reconcile with our enemies,

As fight to try and love our neighbor as ourself,

As we fight against the darts that the devil tries to toss,

As we hold up a sign to war against the senseless killing,

As we march in solidarity with those who see us equal,

As we love, cause love covers a multitude of sin,

As we pray that justice will be done in the land,

May we hold on to the promise of his word,

Knowing we’ll see him one day, no tears, no scars,

Until then hold on black sister black brother,

Your are dearly loved by the father,

You love your black and brown people,

You love your black and brown people,

You love your black and brown people,

You love your black brown people too,

Repeat
